saxons newsletter - June 2008
5th June 2008 Hi Saxons Just a reminder, this Saturday is the Norsemens Poker Run. We will be meeting at the Cutter for 11am. It’s in aid of my niece who has leukaemia, her granddad is a member of the Norsemen, hence the connection. Hope you all can make it. See you there. Club Family BBQ will be at the helipad (Fairlight) on Sat 12th July, starts at 2pm. For those that didn’t come last year you missed a great day. I will supply all the food all you need to bring is your drink. A small charge is applicable. Saxon families need only pay £5 per family. Individual Saxons £1.50 and Non Saxons £2.50 each. It is important that I have approx numbers so can you confirm by e mail to club site or text club phone if you are coming and how many. For your information I am currently negotiating about having a professional Club photo. It would be great to see every one on their scooters all in the same place. Pictures will be taken on the seafront or Battle Abbey. I will let you know as soon as I have more information. There is the Senlac Car Show opposite Bodiam Castle on July 6th. It is for charity and I have been assured it will be bigger and better than last year. I will text nearer the time if people want to ride out together. It’s my Birthday soon and will be going out for few drinks to celebrate if you would like to join me down the old town, meet at Paddy’s Dragon Bar on Sat 14th June at 8pm. Very quickly, Tall Rob had a small accident on his scooter last night and unfortunately broke his collarbone. We wish him well and hope he is back on the road soon. The good news, his bathroom fittings did the job and prevented any damage to his Loafers. Rob quoted: the ace is down, but not out! when asked how he was! WANTED. Stabilisers for a mod scooter. If anyone has or knows where you can get them, please contact Rob. Happy Scootering - Michael hastings 18/19 april scooter rally update

If he is away, it will be passed to one of the Committee members. It was suggested that the local charity be St Michael’s Hospice, this was agreed with no objections Rob L offered to take charge of club clothing. Those who haven’t received T-shirts and paid subs last year should speak to Mike, and he will sort this out. 3) Events and rideoutsEveryone who is a paid up club member will get texts from the club phone about club rideouts and info about events with other clubs. Phone records will be available for viewing. A list will be sent round for those that want their phone numbers available to other club members, the list will then be photocopied for all club members. Keith volunteered to organise club rideouts. Mike W will also get a list of dates of events for the year to everyone. Hastings LCGB rally:The Lambretta Club Great Britain (LCGB) weekend rally in Hastings will be held on 18th and 19th April. This year it is not just LCGB club members - it will be an open event. LCGB will organise the Saturday events and the 1066 Saxons will be associated with the rideout. 1066 Saxons will organise the Friday night event - venue, band, dj’s, etc. The club’s money must front this, and we need to set the entry price, so it is up to the club to make it a success. Mark has volunteered to co-ordinate this. There was a show of hands for those volunteering to help out with this event, who were: Anyone else willing to help should contact Mark Howlett or Mike W asap who will contact the above volunteers very soon to start organising the event. Paddy offered the use of the Dragon bar in the daytime. It was raised that we need to advertise this event to other nearby clubs better. Anyone affiliated to any other scooter clubs should spread the word, once we have some flyers and posters. It was discussed we could advertise via editorial in relevant magazines, local advertising, etc. Cannonball run/Treasure hunt: No date has been set yet. The idea of another club BBQ was popular but it was preferred that this did not clash with Hastings Carnival this time. Help would be appreciated. Mick G offered to help as his brother has organised similar events before. Beginners/Intermediate Scooter workshop: 4) Club meeting venueIt was agreed that the Cutter is a convenient venue for parking etc, and that the club will continue to meet there on the first Thursday of the month. It was proposed that there should be another venue for a second club meeting on the third Thursday of the month from May to Sept. The Squirrel Inn on the North Trade road (A271) outside Battle was agreed as it was a bit further from town and the landlord is scooterist-friendly. 5) Club merchandiseIt was suggested the club could have t-shirts, banners, mugs, stickers, and pin badges. Any profits would contribute to club funds. Rob L agreed that the club could use Wards men’s and women’s wear facilities. Mike W, Sarah and Justin will meet with Rob L to sort out new T-shirts. Logo:A vote was held on whether the club logo should be changed. The majority of club members present agreed that it should. Justin passed round some ideas for a new logo design. see: saxons website/branding/logo - update info/p> It was suggested that everyone should vote for their favoured design via the website: www.1066saxons.co.uk Some members prefer embroidered designs, and some prefer transfer print. Rob L said that although embroidery set-up costs were more expensive, both were possible. It was suggested that each club member should choose their own preference. Rob L very kindly offered to cover the set-up costs for the club clothing design. 6) Any other businessIt was suggested perhaps a camping weekend could be organised by the club and other clubs could be invited. It suggested that club rideouts to meet other neighbouring clubs could be organised. Ivan was keen to be the main person responsible for liaison with other local clubs, and Mike W and Keith, as rideout co-ordinator, could also keep in touch with other clubs. Mike W asked that people with contacts at other clubs could text or email contact details to him. It was discussed that we should promote the Saxons more to reach other local scooterists not yet involved in the club, some club members have press/media contacts. If anyone has a business they want to promote and be associated with Saxons/Hastings rally - please contact Mike. Ian will also speak to some local businesses about involvement in/donations to the Hastings rally. Isle of Sheppey Rally on 13-15 June was mentioned. Helen is going to Great Yarmouth at Easter by van from Hastings and asked if anyone wanted to go with her. Jane W has a list of B&Bs in Gt Yarmouth. It was discussed that at the monthly club meeting, people would like to be more organised and have a chance to discuss events, make decisions, etc. It was decided that 8.00-8.30pm at the Cutter monthly meeting would be the time for a more structured club discussion. Mike W said that if anyone wants to organise something they should bring it to his or a committee member’s attention. And finallySarah thanked Mike W for his time and commitment to chairing the club in the past and in the future.
